In addition to instructional design, I’ve also had a number of opportunities to help design and develop multimedia objects for teaching and training. In many instances, I’ve worked with a subject matter expert as well as a team of professionals, which include videographers and graphic designers.
Below, I’ve put together 2 samples to showcase my work and ability for you to explore.
I worked on a project for Indiana Univerisity (IU) Office of Online Education called “Online Student Onboarding”. This project delivered a “just-in-time” resource for students who were enrolled in 100% online programs at IU so that they were given the resources needed to be successful as an online student. I was part of a team of four instructional designers where we collaborated with our partners in the Office of Online Education to design and develop the necessary materials for their students.
As a designer for this project, I was assigned to assist one of our partners in designing the videos that were to be used for this resource. My responsibilities included working with our partner to develop the script, getting him and the actors connected to our campus video production space, providing oversight on the structure and visuals of the video, and giving feedback in post-production editing. Below is a playlist of the final videos used in the project.
One semester I served as an instructional designer with an instructor who was teaching a math course online for the first time. In discussing his course design and layout, he planned to use videos to deliver lectures. He had never created video lectures and he did not have access to a professional video production space, so he asked for assistance from us to help him create high-quality videos and understand how they should look.
To help achieve this, I provided him instructions on how to record a video from his computer and asked him to record an introduction to the course. After he shared his video, I reviewed the footage, designed, and edited the video to produce a higher quality video for his course to show as an example. I implemented best practices regarding multimedia and learning, yet made it simple enough so that he could feel confident in creating these videos on his own if he had the desire to do so.
The playlist below provides the initial video that the instructor provided and the final product.
